Three-Day Security Officer (Vessel, Company and Facility)

This course will meet the STCW training requirements for Security Officer.

This course is in compliance with the following standards set forth by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code and IMO Vessel/Company/Port Facility:

• Regulations 13.1, 13.2 (Part A / B)

• Regulations 18.1 (Part A /B)

Training is approved by Det Norske Veritas (USA), Inc. on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD).

 

Who needs Security Officer Training?

Effective 1 July 2009 the following vessel categories require Security Officers with certified training Per 33 CFR 104-105

1. Passenger vessels carrying over 12 passengers on an international voyage
2. SOLAS passenger vessels
3. Companies that operate the above vessels
4. Ports-Facilities that serve the above vessels

This 3 day course  meets IMO STCW training requirements for Security Officer Vessel, Company AND Facility Security Officer.  It is approved by Det Norske Veritas (USA), Inc. on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD). This course is in compliance with the following standards: Regulations 13.1 (Parts A and B), 13.2 (Parts A and B), and 18.1 (Parts A and B) of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code, MTSA Model Course 08-01 Vessel Security Officer and IMO Model course 3.19 Ship Security Officer (2003) edition), IMO Model Course 3.20 Company Security Officer (2011 Edition) and IMO Model Course 3.21 Port Facility Security Officer (2011 Edition)and include 33 CFR 104, 105 and STCW Regulation VI/5 and STCW Code A-VI5 including Table A-VI/5

Personnel with Designated Security Duties (PDSD for Vessel and Facility)  

Who needs PDSD Training?

Effective 1 January 2014 the following categories require Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD & FPDSD) and all other Personnel without designated duties (SA) to have certified training per ISPS Code 2010 Amendments

1. Passenger vessels carrying over 12 passengers on an international voyage
2. SOLAS passenger vessels
3. Companies that operate the above vessels
4. Ports-Facilities that serve the above vessels

NOTE: PDSD 1 day course ALSO includes the training requirements for Security Awareness (SA) Personnel!

The 1-day Security Awareness Training for Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD & FPDSD) is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. This course is in compliance with the following standards: Regulations 13.3 Parts (Part A&B), and 18.2 (Part A &B), of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, MTSA Model Course 04-01 Maritime Security for Vessel Personnel with Specific Security Duties, MTSA Model Course 04-02 Maritime Security for Facility Personnel with Specific Security Duties, IMO Model Course 3.26 Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties, IMO Model course 3.24 Security Awareness Training for Port Facility Personnel with Designated Security Duties, including 33CFR 104 &105 and STCW Regulation VI/6.

Requirements

To qualify for a VSO endorsement, a person must:

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Be able to speak and understand the English language as would be relevant to the duties of VSO

• Hold a valid TWIC card

• Hold any valid Coast Guard issued credential under the regulations specified in 46 CFR Subchapter B;

• Successfully complete a Coast Guard-accepted VSO course

Sea Service

Fulfill one of the following:

• Have approved sea service of not less than 12 months on any vessel subject to § 104.105 of this part, credited in accordance with 46 CFR 10.205(e), 10.211, and/or 10.213; or

• Have approved sea service of not less than 90 days on any vessel subject to § 104.105 this part, credited in accordance with 46 CFR 10.205(b), 10.211, and/or 10.213, and have knowledge of vessel operations.

ISPS (SOLAS) Requirements for vessels engaged in international voyages include:

• Passenger ships including high-speed craft

• Cargo ships including high-speed craft of 500 gross tonnage and upwards

• Mobile offshore drilling units

• Port facilities serving such ships on international voyages 33 CFR (US) Requirements include

• Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU), cargo, or passenger vessel subject to (SOLAS)

• Passenger vessel subject to 46 CFR chapter I, subchapter H

• Passenger vessel certificated to carry more than 150 passengers

• Other passenger vessels carrying more than 12 passengers engaged in international voyages
